I hope to get a Tern within the next week or so, and notice that the D7i has a noticeable weight increase over the D8. Is this due solely to the hub gears?
ps I love the website and the bikes look great - can't wait to try one out.

I'm trying to narrow it down between these two and I'm confused. It looks like the D8 base includes fenders and a rack and is still lighter than the D7i. What am I missing here?

Hub gears are usually heavier than dereaillers. Also you are forgetting that special thicker adjustable stem handlepost thingy on the D7i which also holds a built in light to it also. And to power that light you guys missed the chunky dynamo hub on the front, those things add up quite a bit of weight when comparing to a simple hub.
Those are pretty big upgrades between the D8 and D7i, and you'll never have to worry about batteries on long rides for your front light ever again!

The P7i has a dynamo front, but not the D7i as far as I can tell.
I'm just having some trouble figuring this out. As far as I can tell, both base bikes come with fenders and a rack. D7i looks to be about 5 lbs heavier than the D8 according to the specs here.
Is the nexus igh really that much heavier than the standard hub + cassette + der?

Oh my! I was looking at an entirely wrong model! my bad!
But as for a hub gear being 5lbs heavier, there's no way it can be that heavy! on wiki pedia a typican nexus 7 hub weight 1860g which is around 4.1lbs only, but we haven't even included the weight of the derailler and its freewheel which would be even a smaller difference between the two. I really don't know where did they get those few lbs of difference now, just as confused lol.

The weight for each bike is for the base model.
The base model Link D8 doesn’t include any accessories. The base model Link D7i includes rack and fenders. The Nexus hub is heavier as well.

We do offer a configuration of this model with dynamo – but you’ll have to check on the Italian Web site to see which model they’ve chosen.

That means it is possible they order in that configuration but it sounds like you should directly ask the dealer. Honestly, my guess is that they do not order the dynamo version. Typically its the Germanic countries that order the most dynamo hubs and as you move South in Europe, our distributors tend not to order dynamo configurations.
Weights listed are for the base model, including accessories. So that extra weight includes not only the internal gear hub but also fenders and rack which come standard on the base D7i but not on the base D8.
