20" Terns for Tall Riders

Anyone have thoughts regarding the fit of the 20" Terns for a tall rider?

I know there's more to it than total height, but at 6' 2" (188 cm) I'm pretty close to the maximum recommended height for most models.

I guess the prudent course of action would be to wait to see if there are any dealers in the Midwest of the U.S. and go for a test ride.  I live in Northern Indiana, but I'm reasonably close to Chicago.

well worth the trip to Olney,Illinois .... across from Vincennces Ind. ( yeah its farther south than many think but when you spend bucko bucks on a bike its worth the trip ) Plus we usually have a little extra give away when you pick up a bike.

I will have demo bikes available shortly you can testride, compare, and feel absolutely sure you have the bike you really wanted all along. Bring the wife or girlfriend and we will find a bike for her as well.

You have a camper or motorhome ? Great !  Just park behind our office for the night, 110v and water is ready (sorry no 30 amp though). Airplane ? We will pick you up from the Olney Noble Airport and bring you back ( no matter if you buy a bike or not )

Bad weather no problem either, as you can ride inside the warehouse and race the forklifts around... ( Well not really, the forklifts will stay put during any other activity ..lol)  Bikes are promised to arrive shortly, but not quite here as of yet. We suggest to make a appointment so we can make arrangements to have bikes ready, and to set a little time away from our busy schedule, but we usually are happy with walk ins as well.

A trip to Olney has indeed crossed my mind (especially because they've been so active in promoting Tern's), but it's about 300 miles from where I live (South Bend, IN).  That said, thanks for the response!

dunno what happened I wrote a long invite .... lol

anyhow You are more than welcome to visit us. We love walk ins but take extra time in our busy schedule if somebody makes an appointment. We usually have a bunch of demo bikes where you can ride several models... and the good part is that even if the weather is bad, you can ride inside the warehouse and race the forklifts ( Kidding of course )

Yeah come on down and see our famous white squirrels running around in town and check and compare the bike you like. Its a lot of money and we certainly want you to have the best fitting bike you like most

You should be fine. At max seat post extension, the distance from top of saddle to top of pedals is 90 CM. You can measure your current bike and check the distance.

Warm Hello, Josh and Everyone!

I've had the height concern too, for my husband, whose stocking-foot inseam is 35" or about 89 CM. (Also, like me, he enjoys a more upright riding position sometimes, so handlebar height as well as seat-to-pedal distance is a consideration.)

Josh, doesn't the Tern website give 93 and 95+ CM max saddle-to-pedal distances for the 20" bikes?

I have a Dahon Glide which I adore--just adore. We're looking at both the Eclipse s11i and the Verge s11i for him--which he is continually adoring from a space-time distance!

Any idea when we'll see these in the USA? Have desire; will travel. :-)

Hi Sarvasu,

You are right. It sounds like your husband should fit but a test ride is recommended. I’m glad you like the Glide. Its a favorite of mine as well. The Eclipse has very much a similar geometry except with a straight bar rather than a curved bar so a slightly longer reach.

Eclipse’s and Verge’s arrive first quarter 2012.
