S11i hub gear wheel removal

Hello, having never used a hub gear before I am just wondering how easy wheel  removal is on a bike like the S11i using the Alfine Hub. I commute 12 miles a day and of course i get punctures which invariably are on the rear wheel..I carry spare inner tubes for quick roadside repairs but I'm slightly concerned that it will not be as easy to do this with a hub geared rear wheel. What do you think??

Dear U-Terning,

To remove a rear wheel equiped with a hub is not  difficult. But instead of thinking about removing, have you ever thought to use puncture safe tyres (from Schwalbe or Continental)? I do so for years; I have had one puncture only within about 5'000 miles although I cycle on fields and meadows ways as well.

Best regards,

Hermann.

You’ll need to carry a 15mm wrench and will want to practice the process before heading out. It’s a bit more involved but not overly so as Nauer mentions. All of our bikes come with Schwalbe tires with puncture protection.

Hi U-Terning

If you are suffering punctures you can also fix the puncture without removing the wheel

Just use tire levers to remove the tire, pull out the inner tube, patch it, and follow patch directions. Then put the tube back in, replace tire and inflate

This is a link to a video showing "dutch style repair"

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments, i've had a look on You Tube and there are a couple of videos on how to remove an Alfine rear hubb fitted wheel, my main concern was releasing the cable but it all looks quite straight forward.....thanks for the advice on repairing without taking the wheel off but i'd rather put a new tube in at the roadside and repair the punctured tube later rather than fiddling around on the roadside trying to repair a puncture...just my personal preference.

Anyway special thanks to Josh for replying...I like the fact you have a real interaction with your customers...
