Eclipse P9 Weight and Wheels

Hi,

I am considering buying a Eclipse P9, but weight is important to me.  Therefore, how much would an Eclipse P9 weigh if it had a kickstand, rear rack, mud guards and clipless pedals?

Also I notice that the tyres are HUGE, can they be swapped for thinner, high pressure tyres?

Thanks

Hi Charles. I’m not sure on your weight question, to be honest. I would say that the P9 is not a super svelte bike to begin with. I’d guess the kickstand is 300 grams, the fenders with stays about 200, and the rack 400 – 500 grams. But you’d also save some weight by removing the folding pedals which are pretty hefty at around 400 grams. But to be honest, if you are putting racks, fenders, kickstand onto a bike with disc brakes, you wouldn’t really be after a super light race bike anyway. What I can tell you is that the Eclipse thus equipped would make one heck of a work-horse commuter/adventure bike. The Eclipse is an incredibly stiff ride, which is one of the benefits of adding a bit more weight.

The tires are actually pretty light – they are 35mm Schwalbe Kojak’s. Yes, sure you could use lighter tires – if you could find them. Panaracer has some I believe but they might not be that easy to find.

Hope that helps.
