Get Your Questions Answered with New Rider-Focused Site Tools

With our bike lineup growing and bike ridership surging worldwide, we figured our website ternbicycles.com was due for a redesign. In 2020 and early 2021, we seized the opportunity to hunker down and build a new site that makes finding information about Tern bikes easier than ever.

When we update a bike, we aim to stay true to the spirit of the original while adding high-value tweaks and upgrades. Our approach to the new site was similar: while the new homepage might not look much different from the old one, the entire site is now faster and easier to use.

This article will introduce key features of the all-new ternbicycles.com and explain how they can make buying and owning a Tern bike even better. Here’s a quick list of the site features we’ll link to in the article:

New Tools for New Buyers, Seasoned Owners & Everyone In Between

When it comes to buying a new bike or making the most of the one you’ve got, your local bike shop is always the most helpful and comprehensive information resource out there. Our new site works best as a companion to your Tern dealer—it’ll help guide you through the purchasing process and quickly find info about your bike right when you need it.

Which features will be most helpful to you depends on where you are in your Tern bike journey. Below are a few new tools you may want to check out.

Before You Buy: Meet Our Lineup & Find Your Match

Find Bikes that Fit Your Needs

Whether you’re just browsing or want to prep for a trip to your Tern dealer, our new Bike Finder lets you quickly create a shortlist of bikes that fit you and your lifestyle.

With just a few clicks, you can find bikes based on your planned use (for example, commuting vs. exercising), e-bike motor type, kid- or cargo-carrying capacity, folded size, rider size, and more.

Here’s how to use the Bike Finder:

  1. Navigate to the Category list on the left side of the screen.
  2. Click the down arrow to the right of each category name to explore options within that category.
  3. Select the white box next to an option name to view all the bikes that meet that criterion. For example, select Carry Kids under the Planned Use category to see all Tern bikes with room for passengers.
  4. To narrow down your list, select as many criteria as are relevant to you.
  5. To view more detailed information about a bike, click on the bike’s card in the results area on the right side of the screen.

Let’s say you want to see a list of e-bikes you can use to transport your kid to and from daycare. You think you might prefer a bike with a Bosch Performance Line motor system. The Bike Finder makes viewing your options easy:

Compare Bikes Side-by-Side

We often hear bike shoppers ask how two or more bike platforms—or models from within the same platform—stack up. The Bike Comparison tool makes it easy to find out with clear and detailed side-by-side comparisons.

Whether you’re a new rider feeling overwhelmed by all the choices or an experienced buyer interested in the technical nitty-gritty, the Bike Comparison tool is for you.

Bike Comparison

Here’s how to use the Bike Comparison tool:

  1. Select up to 5 bikes by clicking the white Compare button for each bike (located at the bottom of the bike’s card, below the bike photo). The counter in the white Bike Comparison bar (located above the bike list) keeps track of how many bikes you’ve selected. You can select bikes either before or after using the Bike Finder to filter the list.
  2. When you’re done selecting bikes, click the text that says “Compare [#] bikes” in the white Bike Comparison bar. Your browser will navigate to a new page showing the bikes you’ve selected side-by-side.
  3. Scroll down to compare all the details.

In our previous example, we looked for single kid–carrying e-bikes with Bosch Performance Line motors. Let’s use the Bike Comparison tool to directly compare the results:

Discover Useful Accessories

You might be tempted to put off shopping for accessories until after you’ve bought your bike—and fair enough. Given the extensive cross-compatibility of our accessories lineup, that approach may work well for you.

But at Tern, we don’t think of our accessories as mere add-ons—in many ways, the gear makes the bike. That’s why we put tons of thought into creating useful accessories optimized for each and every bike platform. If you have a sense of how you’ll be using your new bike, it makes sense to check out the available accessories before you settle on a bike platform or model.

Use our Accessories Finder to create a wish list to take to your local bike shop so you can order your bike and any essential accessories at the same time. You may even think of some new ways to use your bike while you’re exploring the site.

Here’s how to use the Accessories Finder:

  1. Navigate to the gray left sidebar.
  2. Click the down arrow to the right of each category name (Category, Bike Platform, and Compatible Bikes) to explore options within that category.
  3. Select the white box next to an option name to view all the options that meet that criterion.
    • The options under Category let you search by accessory type. For example, select Front Racks under Category to view all Tern front racks.
    • The options under Bike Platform let you see all accessories compatible with a given platform (for example, all HSDs).
    • The options under Compatible Bikes let you see all accessories compatible with a specific bike model (for example, the HSD P9).
  4. To narrow down your list, select as many criteria as are relevant to you.
  5. To view more detailed information about an accessory, click on the accessory’s card in the results area on the right side of the screen.

Maybe you’re thinking about getting a Link for city riding, but you’re not sure where you’ll stash all the stuff you usually carry around. Use the Accessories Finder to get some ideas:

After You Buy: Optimize Your Ride

Find Compatible Accessories

After you take your new bike home and put some kilometers on it, you’ll have a better sense of what additional accessories you may need (or, let’s face it—which ones you just really want). Even after you’ve owned your bike for a while, accessory needs change as routines shift, families move, and kids grow.

Our Compatibility Checker lets you quickly view all Tern accessories compatible with your specific bike model. It’s the fastest way to find accessories that’ll work perfectly with your bike. (Also: Got a hard-to-shop-for partner or spouse who’s in a committed relationship with their bike? The Compatibility Checker’s not a bad place to start when there’s a special occasion coming up).

Compatibility Checker

There are two ways to use the Compatibility Checker:

Search by Service Tag

To use this method, you'll need your service tag number. You can find this either:

  • on your ternbicycles.com account page (this only works if you’ve already signed up for Tern Care), or
  • under a QR code sticker usually found under the downtube or near the bottom bracket of your bike.

Service Tag Number

To search by Service Tag, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Search by Service Tag area near the top of the Compatibility Checker page.
  2. Input your Service Tag Number and click the black Search button.
  3. To view more detailed information about an accessory, click on the accessory’s card in the results area on the right side of the screen.

Search by Bike Model

  1. Navigate to the Search by Bike Model area near the top of the Compatibility Checker page.
  2. Select your bike model (and generation, if applicable) from the dropdown menu. (If you’re not sure exactly which model and/or generation you own, you’ll get the most accurate results using Search by Service Tag as described above).
  3. To view more detailed information about an accessory, click on the accessory’s card in the results area on the right side of the screen.

Get the Most From Your Bike

The revamped Support section on our site is organized by bike model. Once you’ve landed on the support page for your bike, you’ll find lots of helpful resources to help you learn about and get the most from your bike.

You can visit your Support page to complete quick tasks like registering for Tern Care or downloading manuals for your bike and its components. But you can also come here to browse and read more in-depth articles about how best to ride, care for, and enjoy your bike.

These articles are found in the Do More section for each bike. They cover topics like:

  • How to get the most comfortable ride from your bike
  • How to use special components (for example, your Bosch Purion or Intuvia Display)
  • Tips for gaining confidence as a new rider
  • How to carry out basic maintenance tasks (like cleaning your chain or belt)
  • And lots more

Do More

Here’s how to see all the Do More articles relevant to your bike model:

  1. From within your bike model’s Support page, click the gray Do More tab.
  2. From within the Do More tab, navigate to the gray sidebar and click the See More link near the bottom. Your browser will navigate to a new page where you’ll find all available Do More articles.
