Need to Fit 2 Yepp Seats on the GSD?

Need to Fit 2 Yepp Seats on the GSD?

Yepp Nexxt Maxi vs. Yepp Maxi

The GSD was designed to fit up to two Thule Yepp Maxi seats, no adapters needed. But Thule also has a different model called Yepp Nexxt Maxi, and we are frequently asked if the GSD would also fit two Nexxt Maxi seats.

In short, the answer is no.

The GSD will only properly fit two Maxi seats, but not two Nexxt Maxi seats. And here's why.

Heel Clearance

With two Yepp Maxi seats installed, the GSD rider has plenty of heel clearance, meaning the child seat does not interfere with pedaling:

The image below shows two Yepp Nexxt Maxi seats. In this case, the seat may interfere with pedaling, and the rider will likely hit their heels on (1) the child's footrests and/or (2) the lower panel beside the footrests:

A closer look shows that the footrests on the Yepp Maxi (left) sit at a longer distance from the pedal in comparison to the ones on the Yepp Nexxt Maxi (right):

And, as mentioned above, the rider's heel will likely hit the areas highlighted in yellow:

But Isn't the Nexxt Maxi the Same as the Maxi?

We hear you—it is such a pain when two products have names that are this similar, leading us to believe they must be the same.

However, Thule lists the Yepp Nexxt Maxi and the Yepp Maxi as distinct products on their website. Despite the similar names, these are products that occupy different amounts of space on the GSD rack, and use different attachment systems as well.

What If I Only Need One Child Seat?

Great news! In this case, both the Yepp Maxi and the Yepp Nexxt Maxi are great options. If getting the Nexxt Maxi, just make sure you install the seat with enough heel clearance.
