How to Update the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ Firmware

Your HSD S+ is pretty smart: how many other bikes handle all the shifting for you?

As with most smart devices these days, there are periodic firmware updates available for your S+’s Enviolo AUTOMATiQ hub. These updates may fix bugs, improve performance, and add features.

This article will explain how to upgrade to the latest version of the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ firmware.

Why do I need to update the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ firmware?

Enviolo's firmware updates may significantly improve the performance of your HSD S+’s AUTOMATiQ hub. In the past, these updates have included improvements to core hub functionality, including speed sensor detection and shifting algorithms.

Upgrading to the latest firmware version helps ensure that you’re getting the best possible riding experience from your S+.

When should I update the firmware?

Enviolo publishes a log of all firmware updates here. If neither you nor your dealer has upgraded your HSD S+’s firmware since the latest version was released, it’s time for an upgrade.

If you’ve previously paired your S+ with the Enviolo app, you may receive a notification on your smartphone when an upgrade is available.

How do I update the firmware?

You can update the firmware in just a few minutes using your smartphone. You’ll need to be within a few feet of your HSD S+ to complete the update.

1. If you haven’t previously done so, download the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ app from the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android) and install the app.

2. Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth setting is turned on.

3. Press the power button on your HSD's Intuvia display to turn on the bike's motor system.

4. Open the Enviolo AUTOMATiQ app.

5. If it’s your first time using the Enviolo AUTOMATIQ app, you’ll need to pair the app with the hub on your S+. If you’ve done the pairing step previously, you don’t need to do it again.

To put the hub in pairing mode, sit or stand on the right side of your HSD S+’s rear wheel, where the hub interface is located.

The hub interface button is located here.

Long press the green button on the hub interface until it starts flashing blue. This indicates that the hub is in pairing mode. A dialog box containing a Bluetooth pairing request will appear on your screen. Press “Pair.”

Tip 1: If you have panniers installed on your HSD S+, the pannier on the right side of the bike will block access to the Enviolo hub interface. With the pannier empty, you should be able to reach behind the pannier to press the hub interface button. If you have trouble identifying or pressing the button, you may need to remove the pannier.

Tip 2: If you have large fingers, it may be a little tricky to press and hold the button on the hub interface, as the space around the button is pretty tight. You might want to use the blunt end of a pen or something similar to press the button.

6. Assuming your firmware hasn’t yet been updated to the latest version, a dialog box containing a firmware update notification will appear on your screen. Press “Yes."

7. The app will download the firmware update and transfer it to your hub interface. The process takes a few minutes. When the update is complete, a dialog box will appear on your screen notifying you of the successful update. The app will automatically restart and reconnect.

8. To check which firmware version you currently have installed, ensure that the app is connected to your S+ and tap "Logistics."

Your firmware version will be displayed on the screen.
