Tern Manufacturing Code of Conduct
The Tern Manufacturing Code of Conduct defines expectations and requirements for doing business with Tern Bicycles and Mobility Holdings, Limited. These standards are based on International Labour Organization (ILO) principles and international conventions on human, civil, political, and workers' rights. They also reflect our key R.l.D.E values of respect, integrity, development, and excellence.
Manufacturers should ensure that this Code is communicated to their employees, including prominently posting this in the local language in an easily accessible place.
Compliance with Laws and Workplace Regulations:
Employers will comply with the laws and regulations in all locations where they conduct business.
Forced Labor:
There shall be no use of any forced or involuntary labor, including prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor, human trafficking, slavery or other forms of forced labor.
Child Labor:
Employers will not hire any employee under the age of 16. If the legal age for employment is higher than 16, then the higher age shall apply. For hazardous work, the minimum age is 18.
Harassment or Abuse:
Employees shall be treated with respect and dignity. No employee shall be subject to any threats of violence or physical, sexual, psychological, verbal harassment, or abuse.
Compensation and Benefits:
Employees shall be paid at least the minimum wage required by local law or the prevailing industry wage, whichever is higher, and shall provide legally mandated benefits. In addition to their compensation for regular hours of work, employees shall be compensated for overtime hours at such premium rate as is legally required in the country of manufacture, or in those countries where such laws do not exist, at a rate at least equal to their regular hourly rate. Employers will provide equal pay and benefits for equal work.
Hours of Work:
Employers shall not require workers to work more than the regular and overtime hours allowed by the law of the country where employed. The regular work week shall not exceed 48 hours. Employers shall allow workers at least one day of rest in every seven-day period. All overtime work shall be consensual. Except in extraordinary business circumstances, the sum of regular and overtime hours in a week shall not exceed 60 hours.
Non-Discrimination:
Employers shall hire, pay, promote, and terminate workers on the basis of their ability to do the job, rather than on the basis of personal characteristics or beliefs. No person shall be subject to discrimination in employment, including hiring, salary, benefits, advancement, discipline, termination, or retirement on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, nationality, political opinion, social, or ethnic origin.
Health and Safety:
Employers shall provide (1) a safe and healthy work environment, (2) written safety and health policies, and procedures, (3) provide training and adequate equipment to ensure workplace safety practices. This includes compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, ensuring, at a minimum, reasonable access to potable water and sanitary facilities, fire safety, personal safety equipment, proper handing of hazardous substances, and adequate lighting and ventilation. Where residential housing is provided for workers, employers will provide safe and healthy housing. Employers will also provide reasonable arrangements for women in connection with pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing, and provide reasonable safety precautions to protect pregnant women.
Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining:
Employers will recognize and respect the freedom of employees to exercise their lawful rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. Where the right to freedom of association is restricted under law, employers must allow their employees to raise any job-related grievances the employees may have, without penalty or reprisal.
Environment:
In manufacturing operations, adverse effects on the environment and natural resources are to be minimized while safeguarding the health and safety of the public. Employers will comply with environmental rules, regulations, and standards applicable to their operations, and will observe environmentally conscious practices in all locations where they operate.
Transparency:
Employers must provide Mobility Holdings, Ltd. with open and straightforward communication about their business practices. This includes full disclosure of locations producing goods for Mobility Holdings, Ltd.
Community:
Employers are encouraged to engage directly or through partnerships in projects that improve the social well-being of employees and their families in the local community.
