Enormously Useful. Surprisingly Small.
The GSD is designed to carry two kids, a week’s worth of groceries, or 180 kg of cargo, but it’s only 180 cm long—the same length as a standard bike. With Tern’s best-in-class folding technology, it packs down small enough to fit in a VW Touran or an urban apartment. Plus, it adjusts to fit riders from 150 – 195 cm—so mom, dad and the kids can all share it.
The seat and cockpit on the Tern GSD are super adjustable (it fits people 4’11” to 6’5”), so if I wanted to drive, I definitely could have done so comfortably. But I was more than happy in the passenger seat, cruising home with the wind in my hair, a dog in my lap, and an arm around my SO’s waist. Cargo bike + picnic pizza = best date night ever.
The Tern GSD S10 has a quaint appearance—but on closer inspection everything makes sense. This bike is well thought out, thoroughly styled and absolutely high-quality from A to Z.
The Tern GSD has been our e-bike of the year in the past, so it’s no surprise to find it back in this list again.
When it first landed the Tern was miles ahead of the pack, and was rightly our e-bike of the year in 2018. Skip forward to now and the GSD remains, for me, the pick of the bunch: it’s the most practical bike I’ve ever used.
With the help of a mini-fleet of Bosch-powered e-cargo bikes, including [a GSD with a Carla Cargo trailer], and financial support from Bosch eBike Systems, the programme shares food with the local community that would have otherwise gone to waste.
It completely changed the game by making a cargo bike small, fun, and convenient to ride, as well as useful.
Just for [the GSD], a modular accessory system for the weather-protected transportation of children and luggage will be available from 2021: the Storm Box and the Storm Shield.
