Recommended Adapter Chains for ABUS & AXA Frame Locks on Tern Bikes
Heads up!
This article mentions third-party products that are not manufactured by Tern. Please note that product designs might change, and that their manufacturers may choose to maintain the same product name even after the design has changed.
For your safety, always consult with your bike dealer, or with the product manufacturer or reseller, to make sure you have the right components to safely ride the bike.
If your Tern bike has a frame lock, an adapter (plug-in) chain provides convenient secondary security. Adapter chains often come in different lengths and thicknesses, so you can choose one to suit your needs.
To use, wrap the chain around a fixed object like a bike rack, thread the end with the lock pin through the chain’s ring, and plug the pin into the frame lock. Then, simply lock up using the frame lock’s own key. No extra key or separate shackle is needed.
For ABUS frame locks
For Tern bikes equipped with an ABUS frame lock, we recommend the following compatible plug-in chains:
For AXA frame locks
If your bike has an AXA frame lock, ABUS plug-in chains are not compatible. Instead, we recommend using AXA adapter chains or cables designed specifically for AXA frame locks, such as:
Friendly reminders
On Tern bikes that come with ABUS or AXA frame locks, the frame lock is keyed alike with the Bosch battery, meaning one key operates both the battery and the frame lock. Because of this, it’s a good idea to take extra precautions in case you ever lose your key and need a replacement. We recommend to:
- Record and store your key number in a safe place. You’ll need it to order a replacement from the lock manufacturer.
- Register your key with the lock manufacturer when possible to help speed up the replacement process.
- Enter your key number when signing up for Tern Care. This ensures we have it on file if you ever need it to order a replacement.
