What we're looking for

The Production Control Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling production schedules to ensure the on-time delivery of Tern bicycles. This role ensures materials, factory capacity, and our shipping promises match perfectly while maintaining high data integrity, process discipline, and clear communications across internal teams and external manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, manage, and communicate master production schedules, balancing demand with material availability and factory capacity.
  • Maintain up-to-date order information to ensure all partners (including upstream factories and downstream customers) receive the information and updates needed to manage their business effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production performance against plan, identify gaps, and drive timely corrective actions.

Quotation Management & Pricing Administration

  • Manage the end-to-end process for receiving, reviewing, and maintaining supplier quotations, ensuring alignment with technical specifications, commercial terms, and company requirements.
  • Validate pricing, lead times, MOQs, and payment terms; coordinate with suppliers on clarifications and revisions, and escalate risks or discrepancies to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update pricing and quotation validity in ERP/PLM systems, ensuring data accuracy, traceability, and proper version control.
  • Monitor quotation expiration and proactively drive renewals to avoid supply or pricing gaps.
  • Support cost analysis, benchmarking, and sourcing decisions while maintaining a complete and auditable record of all quotations and communications.

Product Ramp & Production Readiness

  • Cross-functional coordination to ensure all documentation, materials, and resources are fully aligned for a smooth and on-time production ramp.
  • Verify readiness of all ramp-critical elements, including BOMs, drawings, specifications, work instructions, quality standards, material availability, and production capacity prior to pilot and mass production.
  • Drive readiness reviews with internal teams and manufacturing partners; validate schedules and enforce disciplined production date commitments based on secured materials and dependencies.
  • Monitor ramp milestones and proactively identify, escalate, and mitigate risks impacting timing, cost, or quality.
  • Support pilot builds and early production to ensure stable processes, rapid issue resolution, and capture of lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Material & Inventory Control

  • Ensure material readiness for all production orders to support uninterrupted manufacturing.
  • Partner with procurement and external partners to identify and communicate risks, then plan and execute agreed upon mitigation actions to material and capacity shortages before they happen.
  • Maintain accurate visibility of inventory, including on-hand, WIP, and allocated materials.
  • Reconcile and prevent discrepancies between factory ERP systems and internal systems.

Factory Coordination & Execution

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for production control with assembly factories.
  • Lead regular production review meetings to track progress and address issues. Document discrepancies and participate in retrospectives and corrective action planning to improve processes.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate production constraints (e.g., capacity, processes, component shortages).
  • Proactively propose and own implementation of solutions to risks affective on-time, in-full delivery of orders (e.g., overtime, alternative sourcing, priority shifts).

Data Management & Reporting

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of production data within ERP and other company systems. Maintain and respect strict version control for BOM to ensure accurate, consistent production.
  • Develop and maintain production tracking tools, reports, and dashboards.
  • Monitor and report key production KPIs, including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, material availability, and delay root causes with recovery actions.

Process & SOP Management

  • Establish, implement, and enforce production control processes and SOPs to meet business goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate production status updates from factories and internal stakeholders.
  • Standardize reporting mechanisms for delays and root cause analysis.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Product Development, Sales, and Logistics to align on production plans, material readiness, and delivery commitments.
  • Communicate clearly and frequently so stakeholders are all on the same page.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in production planning, production control, or scheduling.
  • Experience in bicycle, e-bike, or similar assembly manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience working with manufacturing environments in Vietnam, Taiwan, or China is a plus.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in production planning, scheduling, and material control, with a solid understanding of inventory management, capacity planning, and bottleneck analysis.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred; NetSuite is a plus) and advanced Excel/data analysis for production tracking and decision-making.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, manage escalations, and drive timely resolution.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy and integrity.
  • Proven ability to drive accountability and effectively collaborate with external manufacturing partners.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills in a cross-functional and global environment.
  • Familiarity with bicycle/e-bike components and experience managing long-lead materials and buffer strategies is a plus.
