Where is the Bike Number on Tern Bikes

Where Is My Bike Number?

As a Tern bike owner, you may want to sign up for Tern Care and insure your bike to optimize its protection. And at some point, you may also need to visit your dealer for repairs that are covered by the Tern Warranty. Whether you need help from your insurance provider, Tern dealer, or our Service team, it’s important that you provide the correct bike number to ensure you are helped as quickly as possible.

In this guide, you’ll find all you need to know about the Service Tag Number and Frame Number—including how to identify them, where to find them, and when to use them.

Important: All new Tern bike owners should record and securely store both the Service Tag Number and Frame Number. These numbers are essential for support, registration, and identification of your Tern bike.

Service Tag Number

The Service Tag Number is your bike’s unique ID issued by Tern. It’s an 8-character alphanumeric sequence that starts with a capital “T”, and serves as the primary way we identify your bike in our system. The Service Tag Number helps us keep track of your bike for things like warranty and service, and allows us to provide faster, more accurate support throughout your bike’s life.

Where is the Service Tag Number located?

You can find the Service Tag Number under the QR code sticker, which is placed near your bike’s down tube or bottom bracket, depending on your bike model.

You’ll need your Service Tag Number for the following:

You may also wish to use the Service Tag Number as an additional ID for third-party services such as bike insurance or proof of ownership.

What is the QR code for?

The QR code is for when you want to sign up for Tern Care but find it difficult to recognize the Service Tag Number.

Once you’ve scanned the code, you’ll be redirected to the Tern Care registration webpage that has the Service Tag Number at the end of its URL. The URL will look like this: ternbicycles.com/en/support/registration/TXXXXXXX. Then, you can start filling out the rest of the registration form.

Frame Number

Another important identification number on your bike is the Frame Number. It’s a 10 to 13-character alphanumeric sequence engraved directly onto the bike frame.

Where is the Frame Number located?

For Tern bikes, the Frame Number can be found on either the bottom of the seat tube or the bottom bracket, depending on your bike model.

When do I need the Frame Number?

Since the Frame Number is permanently engraved on your bike, it’s a reliable ID to use when registering with third-party databases such as for ownership records, insurance, or filing claims. It’s also the number most commonly requested by law enforcement in the event of theft, helping increase the chances of recovery. Both law enforcement and many third-party systems may also allow you to provide additional IDs for your bike, so you can include your Service Tag Number for extra identification and traceability.

Tip: When you register for Tern Care, both your Service Tag Number and Frame Number are saved in our system. You'll also receive a confirmation email with both numbers for your records.
