Where Is My Bike Number?

As a Tern bike owner, you may want to sign up for Tern Care and insure your bike to optimize its protection. And at some point, you may also need to visit your dealer for repairs that are covered by the Tern Warranty. Whether you need help from your insurance provider, Tern Dealer, or our Service team, it’s important that you provide the correct bike number to ensure you are helped as quickly as possible.

In this guide, you’ll find all you need to know about the Service Tag Number and Frame Number—including how to identify them, where to find them, and when to use them.

1. Service Tag Number

1.1. Where is the Service Tag Number?

Let’s start with the Service Tag Number, which is your bike’s primary identification number. The Service Tag Number is an 8 alphanumeric sequence starting with the capital letter “T”. You can find it under the QR code sticker, which is placed near your bike’s down tube or bottom bracket, depending on your bike model.

1.2. When do I need the Service Tag Number?

Usually, the first situation in which you will need to provide the Service Tag Number is when you sign up for Tern Care to extend your warranty.

Pro Tip: Save the Tern Care confirmation email, which contains your Service Tag Number.

Then, you might need it for your bike insurance. Your insurance provider needs the correct bike information to determine an accurate premium and handle claims accordingly.

After that, you will use the Service Tag Number whenever you need to reach out to your dealer or local distributor for any service claims. Once they have your Service Tag, they’ll be able to request a full overview of your bike’s data from the Tern Service Team and receive any necessary support.

And fun fact: The Service Tag Number is also handy when you want to use the Compatibility Checker to find out what accessories you can outfit your bike with.

1.3. What is the QR code for?

The QR code is for when you want to sign up for Tern Care but find it difficult to recognize the Service Tag Number.

Once you’ve scanned the code, you’ll be redirected to the Tern Care registration webpage that has the Service Tag Number at the end of its URL. The URL will look like this: ternbicycles.com/en/support/registration/TXXXXXXX. Then, you can start filling out the rest of the registration form.

2. Frame Number

Another identification number on your bike is the Frame Number. This number is engraved directly on the bike frame. The difference between the Frame Number and the Service Tag Number is that the Frame Number is a 10 to 13 alphanumeric sequence.

2.1. Where is the Frame Number?

It can be found on either the bottom of the seat tube or the bottom bracket, depending on your bike model.

2.2. When do I need the Frame Number?

You might need to provide the Frame Number when registering for bike insurance and filing claims with your insurer. However, because the Frame Number is engraved directly on the frame and may not be clearly visible, you should always provide the Service Tag Number as your bike’s primary identification number.
