How to Get a Replacement Battery Key for Your Tern eBike
Each Tern electric bike has a unique set of keys used to unlock the Bosch battery. If your bike has an ABUS or AXA frame lock, that lock will use the same key as the Bosch battery. See what extra precautions you can take in case you ever lose your key, and what to do if you need a key replacement.
What to do when you first get your bike
We recommend that you save your key number by taking a photo and/or emailing yourself that information. Then, register this number directly with the key manufacturer if a registration service is available.
Most importantly, please enter your key number when signing up for Tern Care. This way, we’ll have a record of it as well, should you ever lose this information.
What to do if you lose your keys
Contact the key manufacturer directly and provide them with your key number. They will need that number to order the replacement keys.
What to do if you didn’t write down your key number
If you cannot find your key number, try the following steps in order:
1. Check your Tern Care account page
If you entered your key number when signing up for Tern Care, it should be on your account page.
2. Contact the Tern Service team
If you haven’t registered your bike and entered the key number during the process, you can email our Service team at [email protected], who may have the key number on file. Please also include your service tag number in your email.

3. Visit your nearest Bosch-certified Tern dealer or retailer
If we don’t have your key number on record, ask a Bosch-certified Tern dealer or retailer to help you. They can run a Bosch diagnostic report on your e-bike, which should contain the key number.
4. Replace the lock core
If none of the above works, ask a Bosch-certified Tern dealer to help you replace your lock core and provide you with new keys.
