If you’ve got young kids you’d like to bring along for the ride on your Tern electric bike or cargo bike, you’ll need child seats. Learn more about compatible child seat models and passenger setups that use one or two child seats, how to use panniers with them, plus recommended accessories for weather protection and additional safety.

How to Carry Young Kids on a Tern Bike

Always follow these 4 principles when carrying young kids on child seats:

  1. Stay within the weight limits—your bike’s max gross vehicle weight and rear rack limit (found in your Tern bike manual), as well as the child seat manufacturer’s recommended weight limit.
  2. Select the appropriate child seats. Child seats should always include the required elements for safe passenger carrying: seating, safety harness, foot support, and foot & leg protection. We recommend only using child seats that conform to EN 14344 standards.
  3. Install and use the child seat according to the specific instructions provided by your child seat manufacturer in the manual.
  4. Mount the child seat as close to the rider as possible (without interfering with heel clearance) to ensure greater stability and prevent the bike from tipping backwards.
