Tern Launches Next Generation Vektron in the US Market

Updated folding e-bike features best-in-class ride quality, quick folding design, and belt drive model

Vektron folding electric ebike

November 13, 2025 — Urban mobility specialist Tern today announced that its award-winning Vektron folding e-bike is now available in the U.S. with a low-maintenance Gates belt drive.

“The Vektron has been a solid favorite of Tern riders, whether they are multi-modal commuters, urban dwellers in need of an e-bike that stores in minimal space, or campers looking to easily include an e-bike in their travels,” said Steve Boyd, General Manager at Tern USA. “This 4th generation introduces several important improvements while retaining its category-leading combination of Bosch mid-drive power, superior ride quality, and incredibly fast and easy folding action. We’ve also added a belt drive model and, through careful component choices, managed to deliver competitive pricing despite cost increases due to tariff pressures.”

Vektron P5i with Belt Drive: Less Fuss, More Convenience

The Vektron has many dedicated fans, and a belt drive has been one of the most customer-requested options. Folding bikes get handled constantly, in and out of cars, through doorways, up stairs, and into apartments, and a belt drive eliminates potential greasy chain contact while keeping the ride even quieter.

The Vektron P5i’s belt drive runs clean and quiet, requires far less maintenance, and when paired with a smooth-shifting Shimano Nexus 5 hub, it’s the ultimate low-hassle commuter bike or ideal travel companion for your car, van or RV.

Best in Class Ride

The Vektron rides like a full-sized, premium e-bike, with a solid, stable, and confidence-inspiring feel. The updated stiff and efficient frame, reinforced handlepost, and Tern’s heavy-duty OCL+ frame joint minimize flex to deliver a quiet, balanced ride. Most folding e-bikes compromise ride quality for compactness, but the Vektron achieves both, offering a true Goldilocks balance of comfort and portability.

For the new Vektron P5i, Tern adapted proven design principles from its GSD and HSD cargo e-bikes to create a more comfort-oriented cockpit for everyday riding. A taller handlepost, swept handlebar, and adjusted center of gravity provide a stable, upright position ideal for city use and relaxed cruising.

The updated Vektron P10 keeps the bike’s original sporty geometry and derailleur setup, preserving the agile handling and responsiveness that define the Vektron ride.

Folds Fast, Rolls Easy, Stores Anywhere

The Vektron folds in under 10 seconds into a compact, self-locking package that rolls easily on its own wheels. It slides neatly under a desk or fits beside a workstation — ideal for commuters who want the security of indoor parking.

For city riders, it’s the perfect solution when safe outdoor parking isn’t an option. There’s no safer place to park a bike than the corner of your office or apartment.

Safety Certified

Safety is critical for any ebike, especially given the proliferation of cheap, uncertified ebikes in the market. Vektron is tested to meet the strictest e-bike standards and is both EN 15194 and UL 2849-certified, meaning the entire electrical system (motor, battery, and charger) is independently verified for safety and performance.

Support You Can Count On

Vektron comes with a strong warranty, with extended coverage available for the frame, handlepost, and fork for up to 10 years. Tern will support and ensure the availability of replacement parts (i.e. battery and electronics) for at least seven years. And with Tern’s Warranty Transfer Program, coverage can move with the bike to secondary owners, protecting resale value and giving peace of mind.

Pricing & Availability

Vektron will be available in two configurations: P10 with Shimano Deore 1x10 derailleur for $3699 USD/ $5799 CAD and P5i with Nexus hub and Gates Belt for $4099 USD/ $6399 CAD. The Bikes will begin arriving at Tern dealers in North America by the end of the year. More details can be found on the Tern website:
