Clubhouse Fort Mini FAQ

Clubhouse Fort Mini: All-Weather Kid Carrier for Compact Tern Cargo Bikes

Updated on

Click here to learn about the larger Clubhouse Fort for 2-passenger Tern cargo bikes.

The Clubhouse Fort Mini is an ideal all-season setup for compact, 1-passenger Tern cargo bikes, designed to keep your kid dry and cozy on rainy days and shielded from the sun. If you live in an area with unpredictable weather, the Clubhouse Fort Mini can be a super useful addition.

What is the Clubhouse Fort Mini?

The Clubhouse Fort Mini is a three-part, weatherproof passenger compartment designed to fit up to one kid, with a maximum recommended height of 140 cm (plus a bit of extra space for a helmet). It turns your bike into a cozy little cabin on wheels—keeping your kid dry, comfy, and content no matter the weather.

Clubhouse Fort Mini Accessories

The Clubhouse Fort Mini is not a bundle—it consists of several accessories that are sold separately. Here they are:

1. The foundation: Clubhouse Mini

Clubhouse Mini Gen 2 comes with an opening side rail and 2 swappable rear bars (Flat Bar & Child Seat Expansion Bar).Clubhouse Mini Gen 1 features fixed side rails and a permanently installed rear Flat Bar (no Child Seat Expansion Bar).

The Clubhouse Mini is a set of passenger bars that surrounds your child to provide extra support during the ride. It can fit a single compatible child seat, or be used with a Clubhouse Seat Pad and Clubhouse Backrest for older kids who have outgrown a child seat. The Clubhouse Mini serves as the foundation for the Clubhouse Fort Mini and is required to install the other accessories.

There are two versions of the Clubhouse Mini—Gen 1 and Gen 2—and either can be used to build the Clubhouse Fort Mini. As the Clubhouse Mini product lineup continues to evolve, Gen 2 adds features such as the side-opening rail, offering more convenient passenger and cargo access.

2. The bottom compartment: Storm Box Mini

Storm Box Mini Gen 2 features zip-open side panels that work seamlessly with the Clubhouse Mini Gen 2's opening side rail.Storm Box Mini Gen 1 features fixed panels on all sides.

The Storm Box Mini is a big, soft-but-sturdy lower deck compartment that helps protect your child from the elements. It comes with a water-resistant Kid Lid Mini that cinches around a little rider to protect them from light drizzles, which is a bit like a kayak's spray skirt.

The Storm Box Mini was designed with kid-carrying in mind, and the latest version (Storm Box Mini Gen 2) even features side panels that zip open to work seamlessly with the Clubhouse Mini Gen 2's opening side rail, making it easier for passengers to get in and out and providing more convenient access to cargo. It's also effective at catching all the toys, clothes, and other items that may fall from little hands while riding. Just unzip the side panels to easily reach your kid’s missing mittens at the bottom.

But the Storm Box Mini isn't just for transporting your child. When they're not riding with you, it provides 96 L of cargo space. Add the Cargo Lid Mini (sold separately) to turn it into a fully enclosed, weatherproof trunk for your shopping hauls.

3. Lastly, the canopy roof

The Clubhouse Fort Mini has two roof options: The Storm Shield Mini and the Sun & Rain Shield Mini.

Storm Shield Mini

The Storm Shield Mini is an all-weather canopy made from waterproof, UV-resistant nylon. It keeps a kid dry in the rain and protected from the sun, making it a practical, all-in-one solution for families who want dependable coverage that stays on the bike year-round. We included a rear ventilation panel and roll-up side panels to ensure good airflow and prevent stuffiness in the passenger area. The roll-up side-panels also allow easier passenger access, while the Storm Shield Mini’s fiberglass tent pole structure is designed to hold its shape, even on windier days.

Sun Shield Mini & Rain Shield Mini

Rain Shield Mini goes over the Sun Shield Mini for rain protection.

The Sun Shield Mini is a lightweight, breathable bicycle sun canopy offering UPF 50-rated protection to keep your kid safe from harmful UV rays. It’s designed with side panels that roll up to allow maximum air flow and easy access to the passenger cabin, plus a mesh front that lets you keep an eye on all the fun happening inside. When not in use, the Sun Shield Mini easily folds down into a small bundle for compact storage.

The Rain Shield Mini is a waterproof bike cover add-on that easily secures over the Sun Shield Mini via snap buttons, transforming the bike sun shade into an all-weather canopy to keep kids dry and comfy year-round. With a 12,000 mm waterproof rating, it handles everything from drizzles to heavy downpours. The large roll-up windows allow ventilation and easy access to the passenger seats. When the weather clears, simply fold the Rain Shield Mini up and stash it in the front pocket of the Sun Shield Mini.

The Sun Shield Mini and Rain Shield Mini are sold separately, giving riders more flexibility. They’re a good choice for families who don’t want full-time weather coverage or prefer separate protection for sun and rain.

Pillow forts are fun, but the Clubhouse Fort Mini is on another level! If you’d like to learn about compatible child seats for your Tern bike, check out our Child Seat Guide. For more passenger configurations, see our Passenger Guide.
