Tern OCL Joint - Folding bike frame latch

OCL+ Frame Joint

Robust folding technology

A heavy-duty update to our iconic OCL frame hinge, the OCL+ is built to exceed ISO 4210 and EN 15194 testing requirements. Leveraging the hinge design of the long-tail Tern Cargo Node, the OCL+ features a single-shaft design, advanced welding techniques, and robust gussets, so it stays stiff and strong during even the fastest commutes.

Stronger by Design

Making the hinge taller and moving the pivoting surfaces outward from the center axis more than doubles overall strength and stiffness. It’s a difference you’ll feel from your very first ride.

Smooth Operation

The patented design puts four igus® bearings between the aluminum and stainless steel moving parts so the folding action is always smooth and friction-free.

Interlocking Joint

The front and rear joint surfaces lock together to eliminate torsional movement.

Easy to Use

Large rounded surfaces on the lever and joint bodies are easy on your hands and allow good leverage for easy operation.

Doubly Safe

Close the lever and the AutoLok automatically locks in place for extra, easy security.

Floating Point Technology

Patented technology allows the lever to fold flat and brace against the joint for protection in transit.

Serviceable

Good things are built to last and that’s why the OCL+ Joint is designed to be dealer serviceable. We keep every part in stock and if your bearings ever wear out, your dealer can replace them in a few minutes.

Precision-Machined

A machining tolerance of only 50 microns ensures a tight fit and eliminates looseness and rattling.

Stainless Steel Hardware

Cold-worked stainless delivers the durability and reliability needed for daily riding in all weather conditions.

Vektron Gen 2 Folding Bike Frame

Updated Vektron Frame

RE-ENGINEERED FOR A BETTER RIDE

With a re-worked frame and frame geometry, the updated Vektron is now even better. The cockpit is longer for improved comfort for taller riders. The frame has been designed with additional forged and machined elements for additional strength without extra weight. The battery now reclines backwards, keeping the center of gravity as low as possible for superior handling. And the new design allows the Vektron to stand up vertically when folded, making it even easier to roll around.

Tern DoubleTruss Folding Bike Design

DoubleTruss Technology

Stiffer by design

The rear half of Tern frames use a patented 3D structure we call DoubleTruss to build in extra stiffness. It helps resist torsional forces so our bikes flex less. That means increased stiffness and much better power transfer from the pedals to the rear wheel. The proof’s in the ride.

Quadric Dropouts

Quadric Dropouts

THE USER-CENTERED DROPOUT

Dropouts are often overlooked, but a good dropout goes a long way. Our Quadric dropout is built taller, so your disc brakes are protected inside the frame. The design makes the eyelets for mudguards, racks, and our clip system more user-friendly and accessible than ever before. We even included a mount for a sturdy rear kickstand.

Tern Tarsus Fork - Rigid Fork for folding bikes

Tarsus Fork

Hydroform meets function

Utilizing a single hydroformed tube mated to a precision-machined steerer, the Tarsus delivers superior strength in a shape that matches the sophisticated lines of the Verge and Eclipse frames.

Hydroformed Tubing

The process of hydroforming aligns the grain structure and strengthens the aluminum material. It also minimizes welding in the most highly stressed area of the fork.

Internal Wire Routing

If you decide to equip your Tarsus with a dynamo hub, it’s ready for internal cable routing, keeping the profile of your bike clean.

Tern Physis Handlepost Gen 1

Physis 3D Handlepost

The new benchmark

Four patented technologies and unique manufacturing technology add up to the strongest, stiffest handlepost available. The Physis uses a special manufacturing process called 3D forging, which forms the post from a single piece of aluminum, eliminating all welds.

No Flex

To eliminate flex, the Physis was designed with a massive joint knuckle and a post that gradually tapers from thick at the base to thin. The fork steerer interface is 150% more stiff than common designs.

Flux Technology

The base of the Physis is machined so it functions as the upper race of the headset. This patented direct integration contributes to the incredible stiffness of the design.

Interlocking Halves

Joint surfaces lock together to improve torsional stiffness.

Redundant Double Bolts

Two bolts clamp the Physis to the fork steerer for improved safety.

igus® Bearings

The patented design puts sliding bearings between the moving parts so the folding action is always smooth and friction-free.

Large, Smooth Lever

Large rounded surfaces are easy on your hands and provide good leverage for easy operation.

AutoLok Technology

Close the lever and it automatically locks in place, for extra, easy security.

Floating Point Technology

Patented technology allows the lever to fold flat and brace against the joint for protection in transit.

Serviceable

Good things are built to last and that’s why the Physis is designed to be fully dealer serviceable. We keep every part in stock and replacing the bearings can be done in minutes.

TriSeal Design

Three rubber seals keep weather out and the headset bearings functioning smoothly.

Precision-Machined

A machining tolerance of only 50 microns ensures a tight fit and eliminates looseness and rattling.

Velo Lock

Velo® Ergonomic LockOn Grips

Be kind to your hands

ErgoLock grips are nice and wide for excellent palm support so your hands can relax during the ride. They also lock in place on the handlebars so they’re always in the correct position, unlike non-locking grips which tend to rotate out of position.

Tern Porter Saddle - Easiest way to carry a folding bike

Porter Saddle

A new way to carry your bike

One of our favorite ways to get a Tern bike up a set of stairs is to hook the nose of the saddle over a shoulder. It’s fast and easy, but the nose of the saddle can be hard. We solved this pain-point by re-engineering the underside of the saddle into a comfortable shoulder pad. It cushions and “grips” your shoulder so your hands are free to carry other things—like a backpack or the weekend’s groceries.

Telescopic Seatpost

Telescopic Seatpost

LONGER SEATPOST. SMALLER FOLD.

This seatpost is perfect for tall riders or anyone who likes a compact fold. It extends 90 mm longer than our stock seatpost, but thanks to its unique design, it’s 120 mm shorter when retracted. It features a dual-bolt head design for precise saddle adjustment, and an inner post diameter of 27.2 mm, so you can customize it with other posts.

Valo Light: Dynamo-Powered Front Bike Light

Valo Direct Light

Immediate illumination

Our 41 lux, 150 lumen Valo Direct lights up your ride without adding the drag or weight of a dynamo. It’s engineered to sit inside the handlebar stem, where it’s safe from knocks, bumps, and theft. That means it’s protected while folding, and optimally positioned to give you the most light.

Herrmann’s Expertise

We designed the Valo with Herrmans, the Finnish lighting experts who have a side business making lights for massive earth tunneling machines. No surprise then that the Valo is ready for all weather conditions: it’s made from cold-resistant ABS with built-in water management channels.

Extra Bright

The Valo puts out 41 lux of light, 4x brighter than the European requirement for bicycle lighting. That means you get a bright, wide beam of light that makes cycling at night safe and reassuring.

Clarity Optics

The Valo has a carefully shaped mirror that optimizes the beam pattern for cycling. It is wide, so you can see potential obstacles or hazards on the side of the road. It is even, without hotspots, so your night vision is not compromised. And it is clipped at the top of the beam pattern so you don’t blind oncoming cyclists or motorists.

Side Lighting

The Valo has light channels on each side so that you are visible to cars approaching from the sides. For additional safety, the Valo has two additional LED’s on each side, which light up when you’re stopped at a traffic light.

Visor

The Valo protects your sensitive night vision with a small visor that blocks light from shining back into your eyes.

Patented CryoCore Design

LED lights need to run cool to work optimally. If they run too hot over a period of time, they gradually lose brightness. Most LED lights have a tiny button sized heat sink that is used to dissipate heat. Our patented design connects the Valo to the handlebar so the entire bar is used as a massive heat sink.

720 Visbility

720° Visibility

See and be seen

You need to be safe when you’re out on the road. That’s why we’ve designed our hard-core commuter bikes with 720° Visibility: 360° of active lighting and 360° of reflectivity.

360° Active Lighting

Specially designed lights allow you to be seen from all angles when it’s dark out. Accidents often occur at 90° angles at an intersection so active side lighting is especially important.

360° Reflectivity

Bright car headlights can overwhelm the active lights on a bike and this is why reflectivity is important: the brighter a car’s headlights, the brighter the reflective patches shining back at the driver. Bikes with 360° Reflectivity are visible from every angle to oncoming cars.

Atlas V Rear Rack for the Vektron

Atlas V Rack

AN ULTRA-ROBUST RACK WITH GSDna

With structural cues from the heavy-duty Tern GSD, the new Atlas V Rack has been massively strengthened and increased in size, with a load capacity of 27 kg (59 lb). This reduces flex for more secure handling when the bike is loaded. Riding with your little one? Add a Thule Yepp Maxi or Dash® RM child seat—no adapters needed. The Atlas V Rack is also KLICKfix-compatible, and can hold panniers of different sizes—including the Bucketload Pannier, which was designed to fit every configuration of the Vektron.
