Can You Vertically Park the Tern Vektron Folding Ebike?
A great feature of many Tern bikes is that they can be vertically parked to reduce their footprint in tight spaces. So it’s natural for Vektron riders to ask: Can the Vektron also be vertically parked?
The short answer: No. Read on to learn why.
What Is Vertical Parking?
Vertical parking means standing your bike upright on its rear rack to save space. It’s a handy feature for tight spots, whether you're squeezing into an elevator, bringing your bike on a train, or storing it in the hallway of a small apartment.

But vertical parking isn’t as simple as tipping a bike upright. It requires specific design features that ensure the bike remains stable when standing on its rear rack. Bikes like the GSD and HSD are purpose-built for maximum stability when parked in the vertical position.
The Vektron folding electric bike, on the other hand, follows a different design approach. We prioritized stability and compactness when the bike is folded, rather than engineering the Vektron to stand vertically when unfolded. It’s a deliberate design trade-off. As a result, the Vektron is not intended to be vertically parked.
Storing the Vektron When Folded
The good news is that once fully folded, the Vektron has the smallest storage footprint in Tern’s e-bike lineup and offers two stable storage options: horizontal or upright.

Look closely at the Vektron frame and you’ll notice a small protrusion just behind the crank. This is called the Underframe Support, and it helps the folded bike rest securely in a horizontal position. It also prevents key components, such as the chain guard, from touching the ground. The fully folded Vektron can also be stored upright, with the rear rack acting as a stable base.
Either way, folding is the key to reducing the bike’s footprint safely and effectively.
Same Benefits, Achieved Differently
While the Vektron doesn’t support vertical parking when unfolded, this compact folding bike still delivers all the same space-saving advantages, such as maneuvering in tight spaces, compact storage in urban apartments, and indoor-friendly parking. It simply achieves them differently, by folding instead of standing.
Once folded, the Vektron shrinks down to around 41 × 86 × 68 cm (16.1 × 33.9 × 26.8"), making it easy to tuck into tight spaces. And with a folding time of around 10 seconds, switching from ride mode to storage mode is quick and effortless.
Pro tip: In the folded position, you can use the seatpost as a handle to trolley the Vektron, no lifting required.
