Tern Warranty Transfer: Buyer’s Guide
Here’s what you need to know to receive and continue the original warranty coverage after buying a used Tern bicycle.
Warranty Transfer Process
To complete the transfer, the Seller must submit the following to Tern:
- Proof of a recent tune-up within 30 days of the sale of the bike (using the official Tune-Up Checklist)
- Bosch Diagnostics Report issued within 30 days of the sale of the bike (for Bosch-equipped bikes)
- Original purchase receipt
- Signed bill of sale between Seller and Buyer with date of purchase included
- Full name and contact details for both Seller and Buyer
Steps for the Buyer
As part of the transfer process, you’ll need to:
- Provide your full name and a working email address to the Seller
- Sign a bill of sale with the Seller: Must include purchase date. Accepted formats include a signed bill of sale, digital invoice, or order confirmation. Download template
Once the transfer is approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Tern. It will include a link where you can activate the transferred warranty.
Warranty Coverage After the Sale
With the warranty transfer, you’ll receive the remaining coverage from the bike’s original warranty period. Coverage doesn’t reset. Please note, the length of coverage on some components depends on whether the bike was originally registered with Tern:
- Registered bikes: 10-year Extended Warranty on Tern-branded frame, fork, and handlepost
- Unregistered bikes: 5-year Limited Warranty on the frame, fork, and handlepost
